We’ve had a bit of wind, a bit of rain…but nothing like the storm I was expecting. So far we haven’t seen any flooding or damage, so that’s good! We’re back to work tomorrow after our little Houston “snow day". :) Let’s hope the rest of the season works out as well.

Tropical Storm Edoaurd is heading our way. We were sent home from work at noon to prepare. We decided to not evacuate because of the low intensity of the storm at this time. We cleared out all the loose items in our backyard and put them in the garage, filled up a couple of spare water jugs.

The irony of storms like this is that the weather was very nice today. Few clouds and a little warm (and by a little warm I mean the mid 90s). But that’ll change overnight. It’s expected to hit the coast tomorrow morning sometime between 10 a.m. and noon. Our emergency plan, if things get bad, is to hop in the Suburban and head to my parent’s house up north of downtown Houston. We will have our cell phones with us, and will be doing our best to keep everybody informed. We hear text messages have a higher likelihood of making it through during busy times, so if you can’t reach us by phone try that.

If you’d like to follow along, I’d recommend the National Hurricane Center website. The National Weather Service in League City is literally down the street from us (we can see the radar dish once you get out of our subdivision), so what happens there happens here. :D

Don’t worry about us, we will be safe, and we will not be going to work tomorrow. Have a good Tuesday!

Last night we went to celebrate the marriage of Mike Sovinsky and Terra Murphy. Mike is one of my co-workers. Most of my group was there, as well as most of Terra’s group (she is a Shuttle Guidance, Navigation, Control and Navigation instructor). We had a great time, and got to chat and hang out with Rob, Melissa, Luke, and Joel Green (Rob was an Usher at our wedding). Their kids are just too cute, as you will see in the pictures below.

The wedding was at the old Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in downtown Houston (old because they just built a brand new one. Co-cathedral because the archdiocese encompasses Houston and Galveston. Galveston has a co-cathedral, also.) The reception was at the Petroleum Club in downtown Houston on the 43rd floor. The view of Houston was awesome. There were helicopters and airplanes flying at our height, which is pretty cool!

Anyway here are some of the pictures. I put some more on our website.

Here’s a great view of Michelle and downtown Houston:

Here we are!

The wedding party.

Paul and Russell, two coworkers of mine.

Joel Green, who apparently can sleep anywhere, at any time. He’s quite talented!

This Saturday, we finally were able to acquire iPhones. We have been casually looking for them since the new version came out last Friday, and even got out of the house at a reasonable time on a Saturday to see if we could obtain one for each of us. We did, and we love them. We can surf the web, check email, play nifty games, figure out where we are, and, oh yeah, make phone calls.

The only thing I’ve noticed is that the battery life on them isn’t very good. All the gadgetry draws a lot of power. So we will need to get an extra charger (for the car), in addition to chargers at home and work.

This week is an exciting one, because we are heading on vacation next weekend! Thursday we are heading to Michigan to see Michelle’s family and attend a wedding in the upper part of the lower peninsula (see, I’m getting the hang of Michigan geography).

Here’s the first picture I took with my new iPhone. Have a great week!

Travis and Michelle Fitzgerald live in League City, Texas. We both work at NASA's Johnson Space Center, and enjoy all sorts of odd things. Among them are Star Wars, reading, geocaching, and various projects around the house. This blog will serve as a record, for future civilizations, of what an atypical newlywed couple does on a day-to-day basis.
